If you live in a big city, you may want to make sure there is a park nearby.

A new study from the Lancet Planetary Health says urban dwellers who live near green spaces are less likely to die before the end of their expected lifespan.

And it doesn’t matter whether it’s a public park, a small wooded area or just a grassy backyard.

The study author says all green spaces provide the same health benefits by encouraging physical activity, reducing noise pollution and regulating the temperature.

Millions of people across seven countries, including the US, were tracked throughout their lives for the study.

Researchers used satellite images to identify how close vegetation or green patches of land were to where the people lived.

Some cities are recognizing the benefits.

New York City has turned 27 percent of its land into public green spaces.

And Paris has vowed to transform a third of its public green spaces into urban farms.
