Oregon Police Training: How to Communicate with Deaf in American Sign Language Better

Travel The World
Chad Ludwig created a Deaf and Police interaction training video with the Oregon Police Department for police officers and other responders to communicate when interacting with deaf or hard-of-hearing citizens by using American Sign Language, Voice Carry Out (VCO) devices, tactile signing boards, or written notes. To improve the safety of Deaf people and give them equal access, we can improve how they interact with police.

The training program builds a partnership and understanding between the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training – DPSST and Oregon’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
