Lightning strike injures 6 at PGA tournament (8.25.19)

According to the Atlanta Police Department, six people were injured when lightning struck a tree during the PGA Tour championship golf tournament at East Lake golf club on Saturday.

Tournament officials suspended play when they spotted severe weather rolling in.

The PGA posted messages on the scoreboards around the course warning spectators of the weather threat and advising people to leave the course and seek shelter.

The six people injured stayed on the course and sought shelter under a tree instead.

Thirty minutes after play was suspended, dual lightning struck the tree the spectators are standing under.

The lighting knocked debris off the tree, injuring the six spectators.

They are all taken to the hospital alert, conscious and breathing.
