The U.S. Senate will be back in session Monday.

And many of its members are vulnerable to coronavirus complications due to age or pre-existing conditions.

So Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar rounded up 1,000 tests to give to Congress.

On Saturday top congressional leaders House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a joint statement respectfully decline the offer.

Pelosi and McConnell say they’re grateful for the offer but they want those tests to go to people on the front lines of the healthcare battle.

The House was supposed to return to Washington Monday also but the leaders canceled that plan as the pandemic continues.

President Trump took to Twitter Saturday slamming the decision to deny testing, focusing the blame on Pelosi.

The tweet said “No reason to turn down except politics. We have plenty of testing. Maybe you need a new doctor over there. Crazy Nancy will use any excuse not to show up to work.”

Just when you thought this year couldn’t get any worse.
