Governor gets emotional over wearing masks

An interesting thing happened during North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s coronavirus press conference on Saturday.

Burnham became quite emotional, his voice started to crack and he seemed to fight back tears as he was speaking about the reasons some people are using masks during the pandemic.

If someone is wearing a mask, they’re not doing it to represent what political party they are in or what candidate they support.

They might be doing it because they’ve got a five-year-old child whose been going through cancer treatments.

They might have a vulnerable adult in their life who are currently up Covid-19 or fighting.

And so again I just want to see our state as part of being North Dakota smart, also be North Dakota kind, North Dakota empathetic, North Dakota understanding.

There have been several viral social media videos showing outrage for being asked to wear a mask in public places such as grocery stores.

North Dakota does not require people to wear a mask in public.

Burgum says he doesn’t want people in North Dakota to let a mask create tension or a political divide like it has in other parts of the country.

He said if people choose to wear one they should be shamed because of it.
