Hello everyone.
I am Sign1News anchor Candace Jones.
This Black history month and Sign1News’ focus is “Read. Lead. Succeed.”
We reached out to several Black deaf people to share their story about their favorite book and why.
My favorite book – and I have read several books by Black authors who write about racism, discrimination, oppression and But my favorite book is entitled “Shaun T: T is for Transformation.”
This book is so powerful!
It felt like the book was talking directly to me.
You know how people in the fitness world immerse themselves in working out to get fit, strong and look good?
Some of you them stand on the scale and celebrate reaching their weight goals.
This book is not about that at all.
It’s about how you feel inside.
Everybody has a past.
Some people grow up with great childhoods.
Others experience have awful childhoods, they experience addiction, abuse and endure trauma.
Sometimes they want to do something but get mentally blocked and stuck in the past.
You really have to be vulnerable, remove that inner baggage, analyze yourself and then move forward.
This book helps people change your mindset, to make sure you are healthy – mind, heart and soul.
Shaun T is a really strong person and broke a lot of barriers to become successful.
We tend to see successful people but forget they all have a back story and still succeed.
It’s like an iceberg.
On the surface it’s smooth and shiny.
But underneath it is a deep, dark place.
It is the most powerful book I’ve ever read.
Now I have some other stories I want to share about favorite books and why.
